Since Trekking in Mustang was officially opened in 1992, it has enriched people from various walks of life to explore the hidden world of the old Buddhist Kingdom of Mustang. Upper Mustang Trek offers you with the highly preserved Buddhist culture and traditions along with the unblemished beauty of nature. Mustang nests on the silhouette of the Dhaulagiri massif sculpting a jagged land enfolded by rocks in various kinds of stirring figure. This sterile terrain is speckled with the hamlet of white rinsed houses, barley fields, and poles adorned with prayer flags which augments a gush of color to the terrain. A trek into this mythical proscribed kingdom of cosmic, parched valleys, windswept canyons, tawny valley, and yak cavalcade, vibrant-painted mud brick houses on the landscape of regal peaks of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Tukche and Dhaulagiri makes your Upper Mustang Trek a very distinctive and a memorable one.
The most expedient way to get to Upper Mustang is to take a mountain flight from Pokhara to Jomsom and kick off the trek from there. The flight is an escapade in itself flying through the deepest ravine in the world, the Kali Gandaki, which lopes between the Nilgiri and the Dhaulagiri mountains. The trek tags along the famous Kali Gandaki River the other extreme, to Kagbeni. From Kagbeni the forbidden area of Upper Mustang inaugurates. However, it is sagacious to pop into the illustrious pilgrim destination of Muktinath prior to routing north into Upper Mustang.
From Kagbeni the trek sets off northwards and pilots to Lo Manthang. You cross gorge after gorge. You can return partly by a varied way via Dhakmar. Adjacent to Dhakmar you can explore the oldest Tibetan monastery in the world, the Lo Gekar Monastery. Lo Gekar Monastery was built in the 8th century by the renowned Tibetan magician Guru Rinpoche. It is believed that he killed a vigorous beast and the blood of the brute has dyed the rocks in the vicinity of Dhakmar bright red. We have also knitted the upper mustang tiji festival trek itinreay for our valued clients who want to witness and experience this festival, which held every year in May.
